Abuse and anti-social behaviour have no place at Oldham Athletic.
There has been an increasing amount of unacceptable behaviour by a minority of Latics fans in recent weeks, at both home and away games, including abuse of on- and off-pitch club staff; abuse of match officials; incursions onto the pitch; and throwing objects onto the pitch.
Following a meeting with the Club and Greater Manchester Police earlier this week, we wanted to condemn the behaviour of that minority of our support. This behaviour puts club staff, match officials and other supporters in danger. Please consider your position as potential role models and that aggressive/abusive language and behaviour could negatively affect the experience of younger fans.
We have seen the impact of this behaviour this season with reduced allocations at away games, meaning fewer fans get to support the team and help us get three points. The police and stewarding costs for the Club at home and away games is also increased, reducing the funds available to spend on the playing squad.
Simply put, the indirect effects of this behaviour make it harder for us to be successful on the pitch. It needs to stop.
Let’s all get behind the team as we try to finish the season strong and enjoy our first playoffs in almost 20 years. Come on Oldham!
