At our Annual General Meeting on Monday 29 July, we will be electing up to 5 new board members. Here are some answers to some common questions you might have if you’re thinking about standing for election:
Who can stand for election?
Any current OASF member who signed up by 29 June 2024.
How do I stand for election?
Complete this nomination form with your information and a short statement on why people should vote for you. You also need to include the details of two OASF members (who signed up by 29 June 2024) who vouch for your candidacy.
Then, send it to the election management group at oasfelection2024@gmail.com.
How long do I have to decide whether to stand?
The deadline for submitting your nomination form is 23:59 on Monday 22 July.
How long do board members get elected for?
Elected terms are usually 3 years, but they can be staggered to minimise the amount of turnover each year. We will confirm the terms of elected board members after the AGM but 3 years is the maximum.
What if I don’t know any other OASF members to vouch for me?
We are offering to help put prospective candidates in touch with other OASF members who can consider whether to vouch for them. If you would like help with this, contact us at hello@oasf.co.uk.
How much time do I have to volunteer to be an OASF board member?
The OASF board meets once a month virtually on Teams. We also meet monthly with Darren Royle, the Club CEO. You should be able to commit to attending most of these meetings. We are flexible with the scheduling of these meetings to ensure everyone can attend.
On top of attending these monthly meetings, you should also be able to dedicate some time to complete any actions you agree to take during meetings.
OASF board members are volunteers, usually on top of full-time jobs and family lives. We recognise that means availability and capacity fluctuates, and will be flexible with our expectations of each other.
Do I need to live in Oldham?
No. Several current board members live outside Oldham. Most meetings are held online. The Oldham fanbase is spread across the world; the OASF board can reflect that too.
What skills and experience do you need to have to be an OASF board member?
You do not need any explicit skills or experience, other than the ability to use emails, instant messaging apps (like WhatsApp), and video conferencing software (like Zoom) to communicate with other board members.
We encourage anyone with enthusiasm to protect the long-term future of the Club and represent other fans to volunteer with OASF.
Does the OASF board have any particular skills gaps?
The current OASF board would benefit from board members (or volunteers) with:
Fundraising experience.
Experience applying for funding for not-for-profit organisations, like OASF.
Legal expertise.
However, as above, anyone without these skills should not be discouraged from applying. All are welcome.
